CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Everyone is invited to join the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer’s Christian education program! Our goal is to help children, teens, and adults grow in their understanding of God in their lives and build relationships with one another.

In addition to our formal classes, we also maintain a small library of Christian books and videos available for checkout on a weekly basis.

If you are interested in teaching, helping, or participating on our Christian Education ministry team, please check the monthly calendar for meeting dates and times, or you can contact the church office to find out more!

Please keep reading for information about our Sunday School and Confirmation programming.

Sunday School

Sunday School is offered for students PreK-Grade 6. Due to the ongoing pandemic concerns, we cooperate with parents and teachers on the Christian Education Programming for this year’s elementary-aged students. Our Sunday School format for 2023-2024 will be announced soon.

We are committed to partnering with families in the early faith formation of their children as they grow in their understanding of God and the world. If you have any questions about Sunday School, please get in touch with the church office. To register a child for this upcoming year, please fill out our Sunday School Registration Form and submit to [email protected]

Confirmation

Confirmation, or the Affirmation of Baptism, is made by students taking on for themselves the promises made for them in their baptism. In preparation for this, students spend time learning about their faith by attending classes, going on faith-based field trips, and participating in the worship and life of the church.

The pastor teaches weekly Confirmation classes during the academic year, beginning with an introduction to Confirmation the Sunday following Labor Day. A schedule for Confirmation classes, including holidays and breaks, is provided to all students and their families during this introductory class. Students and families also participate in the congregation by serving as worship assistants, providing coffee hours, and attending Confirmation events and activities.

Students typically begin the two-year Confirmation Program at the start of their 7th Grade year. If you have any questions about the Confirmation Program, please get in touch with the church office.

First Communion

There are no age restrictions for First Communion. Children may begin to receive the Eucharist when their parents/guardians feel they are ready. At whatever age parents/guardians decide their child is ready to receive Holy Communion, they may attend a First Communion class together with their child. This is a one-and-a-half-hour class led by Pastor Sarah, which is usually offered twice a year and followed by a special recognition the next Sunday.

Vacation Bible School

During the summer, Vacation Bible School is typically hosted for one week in July. The time is filled with songs, activities, and learnings based on a theme like Jesus Loves You! Information, including the registration process, is announced well in advance.
